Another popular entertainer in our vehicle was the musician, Raffi, known for his lively songs for the very young. Raffi’s playlist includes, “Baby Beluga”, “Down By the Bay”, “Shake My Sillies Out” among others. Last weekend I was in Athens for my four year old granddaughter’s ballet recital, and Raffi was playing in the CD player as we drove to the event in my daughter’s car. Such fond memories of twenty years ago came flooding back to me as we sang along to, “The More We Get Together”. If you aren’t familiar with the chorus it goes like this:
The more we get together, together, together. The more we get together the happier we’ll be!
At this time of year we are getting together . . . for graduations, for weddings, for reunions and for vacations. Sometimes those gatherings draw us away from worship on Sundays. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Enjoy your time away together this summer with family and friends. However, when you are in town, please don’t forsake coming to worship because, as Raffi (and the Lord) knows . . . the more we get together, the happier we’ll be.
