A few mornings ago, upon waking, I heard on the radio that in the wee hours there had been a power outage in Atlanta which had effected the
computer systems at Delta Airlines, grounding the entire fleet worldwide. Operations at the largest airline in the region, with 5,000 flights daily around the world, were halted. I could hardly imagine the chaos which must have ensued at the south terminal at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport on Monday morning! Evidently, within five hours the issue was resolved, but not without huge delays throughout the airline industry; the ripple effects were felt globally, and may possibly continue for a couple of days as those stranded travelers are re-integrated into the flow.
This troubling scenario reminded me of the passage of scripture in John 15 where Jesus says, “apart from me you can do nothing.” It is difficult to
operate when one is cut off from the power source. Planes can’t fly when the systems are down; energy can’t pass through the current when the circuits are interrupted, and we can’t function optimally when we are not abiding in the “true vine.” Our purpose is to bear much fruit for the Kingdom of God. In order to do so, we must remain in Jesus Christ, and his words must remain in us. Praying that you remain in the Word, and as a result, you will be flying high this week with all systems on “Go” for God.
