The Mission of an Early Response Team is to provide a caring Christian presence in the aftermath of a disaster. The team is neither a first response group of emergency workers nor a recovery rebuild or repair team; rather it fills a specific need in the early days after a disaster to establish the presence of the church.
Early Response Teams were first created by the United Methodist Church in the mid-1990s. They began, and remain today, as cooperative efforts between UMCOR and UMVIM. Each individual annual conference must decide how and when they will use ERT’s and how they fit into the conference disaster response plan.
MFUMC is having a tool drive so our team will be better equipped for the demolition and cleanup when they respond to natural or civil disasters of such magnitude that it overwhelms a community’s ability to recover on its own.
You can donate tools (new or used) at the church on Sunday, April 23rd on the Bridge. We will also have information available on how you can join our team and be a part of this ministry. If you would like to contribute financially to this project, please write “Tool Drive” on the subject line of your check to the church.
