Real Men Volunteer for VBSReal Men Volunteer for Vacation Bible School
Family and work obligations and the fear of working with children are difficult for some of us, especially men, to overcome when considering whether or not to help with Vacation Bible School (VBS). I found that being able to set aside the "men don't do that work" attitude, volunteer for VBS, and take on a "let God work" attitude has led to some of the most memorable moments of my life. Just last year, I had an opportunity through sharing time to show the kids a globe and talk about Jesus coming to Earth to show how much God loves us. That was one of the best days of my life!
Paw Paw Worked at Bible School!
I got started in Bible School because my grandson was in it at age four and I have helped ever since. He will always know that his Paw Paw worked in Bible School and now his sister will too. One of the best things to me about VBS is getting to know the kids on the first day and it gives me great joy in the possibility that I can help a child come to know Christ.
Take Part in the Faith Community
The children who come to VBS are at an important time in their faith development. It's important that our church and the men of our church take an active role in the lives of the children of our church and community. VBS is a great time to share in the world's greatest message- "God loves you no matter what and Jesus came to us to prove it." When children realize a dad or a granddad cares about that message, it speaks volumes to them as they grow up.
