How to Keep a Child in Marietta from Going Hungry this Summer
Local schools provide nutritious meals to thousands of school children who would otherwise not be able to afford lunch. During the summer, MUST ministries rallies local churches and organizations to help these children continue to eat a nutritious lunch. Join our Sack Lunch Makers Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. in the Reception Hall to help prepare the sack lunches. The group will begin meeting on Thursday, May 31 and continue each week throughout the summer. For more information, contact Forrest Cate, ext. 7806.
How You Can Help Bring Home the Groceries
The Grocery Bus Ministry is in critical need of regular volunteers to help members of our community with their grocery needs. The Grocery Bus is a ministry of Marietta First United Methodist Church that serves elderly residents of the Marietta Housing Projects. Every other Saturday, volunteers use the church vans to provide the participants with transportation to the grocery store or to shop for those who are unable to manage the vans or the store using their shopping lists and the money for their groceries.
The Grocery Bus leaves Marietta First every other Saturday at 9:30 am and usually returns by 1:00 pm. James Galt and Ralph Clark share the driving duties and Jean Saling coordinates individual volunteers and the Jack Aaron Sunday School Class volunteers.
The Grocery Bus started in 1972 when MUST Ministries (as their first service project) organized several local churches to provide this service. If you would like to help with the Grocery Bus Ministry, please contact James Galt or Forrest Cate at ext. 7806.
