Park on Polk

Park Work Days
Spring is here and our beautiful park is being enjoyed by our members and the community. The Park Committee chaired by Gene Atkinson has scheduled regular work days for maintenance in conjunction with the great job being done by our groundskeeper, Rafael.

A backhoe takes a little getting used to.  They save lots of backbreaking work, but they operate by foot pedals and levers and it can be very confusing.   On a recent work day at The Park on Polk,  Blair wasn’t sure if she would be able to operate the backhoe.  But Gene said he would help and was confidence she could do it.  Sure enough, before long, she was operating the machine with ease.  As tricky as a backhoe is to operate for a first timer, it was even more of a challenge for Blair to overcome.  She is 48” tall;  and a rising first-grader. “She is really proud when we work in the park,” according to Blair’s mom,  Maryanne, “I realize how important it is for  grown ups to encourage our children when they participate in activities at the church so they know their contributions are valuable – and there have been a lot of wonderful grown ups who have encouraged Blair's work at the park and made her feel a part of it.”  In fact, when Blair overheard some grown up co-workers talking about the Park on Polk requiring all of our church’s prayers, presence, gifts and service to be a success, she was inspired to contribute several zip-lock bags full of change from her Cinderella piggy bank.  Blair has a personal stake in the completion of the park and the chapel.  She wants to get the project completed in time for her friends Hal and Jennifer to get married there.  She can’t wait until she gets a chance to whitewash the logs of the log cabin

The "Park" Rules and Regulations for Outside Groups
The following regulations apply to use of the “PARK” by outside groups. These rules are very important. Please use them as a guide in planning your event.
Remember that this is the property of Marietta First United Methodist Church (FUMC). It is not comparable to a public place. Event themes must be in keeping with the values of FUMC.
