Our 2012 Senior High Spring Break Mission Trip will be going to New Mexico with One Way Ministries to work with the Navajo and Pueblo peoples in the Gallup or Taos area. As one of the states most affected by the immigration debate in our country, New Mexico is situated in a ripe position to share the message of Christ’s love. Located in the southwestern desert of the US, New Mexico is poised to minister to a large Hispanic population as well as a great Native American population. Ministering to the Native American cultures in New Mexico is a great need and we will work in a variety of outlets including Backyard Bible clubs, community surveys, construction, block parties, community outreach and food/clothing distribution. Trip dates are March 31 to April 6. Travel arrangements are underway and will be updated in the next few weeks. Cost of the trip is $375.00 which will cover transportation, lodging and most meals. We will have a free day and will take advantage of all the scenery New Mexico has to offer. Youth will need additional spending money for free day activities, souvenirs and two-three meals. There will be a parent meeting on Sunday, February 19 at 4:00 p.m. All registrations are due by March 1 along with a $150 non-refundable deposit.

New Mexico boasts twenty-two Native American tribes. As a result of this high number of Indians populating the state, New Mexico has a unique history and heritage of family and family groups. In addition to a large Indian population New Mexico is home to the largest number of historically significant Hispanic settlements in the US. The vibrant Latin influence mingled with the deep American Indian heritage establishes New Mexico as our most colorful state in the US in language, art, food, and history.

Work is beginning in small Indian churches located on or near the Navajo Nation and smaller Pueblo Indian pueblos/reservations. The Navajo Nation is the largest reservation in the US with acreage larger than 10 of the 50 US states and a growing population of more than 250,000. One Way had a partnership through the Baptist Convention of New Mexico and local churches in the Gallup area, Santa Fe area and Taos area.
