Music & The Arts

Sing a new song
With the conclusion of "One Faith, Many Voices" our music ministry now looks ahead to the fall and takes up the music of Advent and Christmas.  Here are some of the ways you can be join us on the journey:

  • Youth Choir resumes on Sun. Sept. 12 at 4:30 p.m. in room 263

  • New Handbell Choir - (Sunday evenings at 5:35 p.m.)  Arie Motschman, our associate director, has begun a second handbell choir for ringers who prefer to rehearse on Sunday evenings.

  • Music Ministry Open House - (Wed. Sept. 15, 6:45 p.m. in Room 263)  This is a great time to visit a rehearsal, enjoy some fellowship and get to know the people who lead our congregation's music.

  • "Higher Ground" Campmeeting Service - (Sun. Sept. 26.  Pre-service music at 6:30 p.m., service begins at 7:00 p.m.)  The MFUMC Music Ministry partners with Dr. Steve Darsey and the Meridian Herald Chorale to present time-honored gospel hymns, campmeeting spirituals and classic hymn arrangements.  Dr. Sam Matthews, senior minister, will preach.

  • Music Ministry Retreat - (Fri./Sat. Oct. 8 and 9)  This year our Adult Choir will remain on campus for a weekend of shared fun and music making as we consecrate ourselves to service and rehearse music for the Eighth Annual "Service of Nine Lessons and Carols."

  • Musical Mission Trip - (Sun. Nov. 7)  Mary Campbell, an active MFUMC member and former director of Rosebud Ministries, will lead a group from our Adult and Youth Choirs to provide music for evening worship at a women's prison in north Georgia.
In each of these opportunities there is a welcome for you to join the song and get to know the lay musicians who make this ministry possible.  The demands of work and family seem to leave less and less time for volunteer service such as singing in choir.  Although we can't add minutes to your day, people often remark that the time spent in rehearsal and Sunday morning is somehow different--a subtle awareness that creativity and worship refresh the mind, soul and body.  Will you grow with us this season as we learn and live God's song together?

Peace,
Bryan
