Carol Choir
(Grades 1-2)
Carol Choir is another step up the ladder as children are introduced to printed music for the first time. In addition to singing, the choir focuses on literacy (note-reading), basic musical terms and Biblical concepts. The children are typically scheduled to sing in worship the second Sunday of each month. The choir also participates in outreach programs that bring music and hospitality to local retirement facilities such as Winnwood and Atherton Place.
Rehearsal schedule (August - May)
Wednesdays
4:30-5:25 p.m.
Room 256, Discipleship Center
Director: Kelly Shaw
With our ever-growing children’s choir program, it is imperative that we know where children are at all times when they are in our care. If you have a special reason to deviate from these procedures, please discuss it with your children’s choir director and be sure to give a written note to your children’s choir director before the worship service.
Dismissal Procedures
Your children’s safety is very important to all of us. Because of this and the increasing traffic in our parking lots, we are asking all parents of children up through Grade 2 to accompany your children to and from the choir room. Car pool has been discontinued. Grades 3 and up may go with a group to the Family Life Hall for dinner. A youth older than grade 5 may come and escort a chorister to dinner. Children picked up later than 5:25 will be escorted to the Nursery (room 114) underneath the sanctuary.
Attendance Awards
Participation awards are given to all Cherub Choir members. Beginning in Carol Choir through grade 5, children are eligible to earn a United Methodist Hymnal for the first year, a Faith We Sing hymnal supplement in the second year and bookplates in subsequent years. If a singer is present for 95% of ALL rehearsals and performances.
