Love God, Love Others
At First United Methodist Church of Marietta, we use the public school cut-off date for age level classes. Class assignment is determined by the child’s age on September 1 of the current school year. Children must be 3 on or before September 1 to be in 3K; children must be 4 on or before September 1 to be in 4K, etc. All children stay at their age level until Promotion Sunday in August. They then move up as a group to the next level.
Sunday School
The curriculum we use is Deep Blue Rotations. Children dive deep into a monthly scripture lesson through art, science, missions, games and stories. This curriculum is very engaging!

3rd Grade Bibles
Every year, during worship, we present our third graders with a special engraved Bible. Children are encouraged to read, write in, and page mark their Bibles so they will incorporate scripture in their daily lives. During Sunday School the children use the curriculum Living the Word to explore their Bibles and grow closer to God. Third graders will form bonds in and out of class to prepare for the next stages in their spiritual walk.
Power 45
4th and 5th graders are a special group called Power 45. They meet together on Sunday mornings and on the third Sunday of the month the group meets together from 4:00 – 6:00 for mission projects, fun outings and even a weekend retreat to Glisson! Kick off pool party is in August, the retreat is in September, and outing to Andretti’s is MLK weekend in January.
Worship
Sunday Fuse Worship
Grades 3K-Kindergarten
9:00 and 11:15 a.m. — Fuse Box (316)
Our curriculum teaches children lessons that follow scripture used in “big church” through stories, crafts, music, and games. 3K and 4K meet in the “Fuse Box” on the 3rd floor before Worship. Preschoolers may be brought upstairs to Room 316 prior to the worship service. Kindergartners sit with their parents until the children’s sermon. At that time, children will listen to the message together, and then leave the Sanctuary with the Fuse Worship leaders.
1st and 2nd Grade Scripture Time
9:00 and 11:15 a.m. – Room 324
1st and 2nd graders learn more about the scripture of the day through short videos, group discussion and activities. Children sit with their parents in the Sanctuary until the children’s sermon. At that time they will join the group for Children’s Time, then will go upstairs with Children’s staff to meet with their age group.
Acolytes
Our acolyte program is a wonderful way for the children of our church from fourth grade up to actively participate in Sunday Worship services. An acolyte serves at the altar of God, assisting the ministers, and helping everyone prepare for worship. The “Light of Christ” is brought in to Worship by the acolyte and the “Light” is then taken out at the end of the service to signify taking the love of Christ to the world. Encouraging our children to serve lets them know that worship is important, and people of all ages can serve. More information here.
Offering
Each child is encouraged to bring an offering every Sunday, which is taken up during Sunday School and Fuse Worship.
Family Worship
Children of any age are welcome in the Sanctuary during worship services if they choose not to participate in Fuse Worship.
Volunteers
Sunday School classes thrive with consistent teachers; please prayerfully consider volunteering regularly in a Sunday School class. This is a great way to serve in the church and get to know our children! Contact Kelly Duncan at kellyduncan@mariettafumc.org for more information about volunteering.
