As the body of Christ we are invited to share in the deep human need within each of us to participate together in God’s Mission for the world. God calls us through the Great Commission to go out and make Disciples. But there is more, He reminds us with the Great Commandment, “To love one another.”
Whether in our church, in a neighborhood down the block or 12,000 miles away, we seek to grow healthy communities through identifying and activating gifts and abilities rather than trying to fill needs. As we seek to follow the Way of Christ, we identify and mobilize the assets of individuals, especially those who live on the margins of life.
We will build relationships among community members that are mutually supportive. By giving community members more roles and opportunities to give, this Asset Based Community Development forms the basis of our part of God’s mission. You are invited to join the journey.
LOCAL MISSIONS
Our Local Mission sponsors outreach projects to develop a healthier community in our local area through partnerships in education with area schools, building community one home at a time through our partnership with Habitat for Humanity, and serving the least and the lost in a number of other ways. We always seek to provide opportunities for Discipleship growth of our members as well as those we seek to serve.
GLOBAL MISSIONS
Our Global Mission sponsors mission teams for short-term projects and through our community development efforts, seeks to establish long term relationships throughout the year to help change the world for Christ. Our Global Mission also provides support for long-term partners in mission all over the world. Many of our Global Mission partners grew up in First United Methodist Church of Marietta and have strong family ties. At the core of our Global Mission efforts are opportunities to encourage the spiritual growth of our members as we seek to take part in God’s Mission through fulfilling the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.
