Children. Church. Music.
Music is among humanity’s most essential and enriching experiences. Children are especially aware of music and delight in the simple pleasure of rhythm and melody. Like a mother that sings to her child, the Church has taught her children to sing their faith—a powerful combination of heart and voice which has sustained countless generations.
Providing early musical experiences to children is a scientifically recognized “jump start” for brain development and cognitive ability. At MFUMC, we celebrate this miracle of learning and connect it with our soul’s longing to worship the Creator of all good things.

Children in Chorister Choir use all they have learned from previous experiences to become leaders in worship and role models for younger singers. A strong emphasis on sight-singing and ear training prepares them for new challenges such as complex rhythms and singing in harmony. Rehearsals are shaped around the RSCM Voice for Life training program that promotes peer leadership, individual achievement, musical excellence, and commitment to the life of the choir. Find out more information about RSCM’s Voice for Life here. In addition to serving in Sunday worship, the choir sings for “Lessons and Carols” and presents a fully staged musical in the spring. Note that when singing in worship, all singers are expected to remain in that worship service.

With our ever-growing children’s choir program, it is imperative that we know where children are at all times when they are in our care. If you have a special reason to deviate from these procedures, please discuss it with your children’s choir director and be sure to give a written note to your children’s choir director before the worship service.
