Class Descriptions for Classes Currently Meeting:

20’s, 30’s, and 40’s

Young Adult Singles (and College age) - Room 255

This is our group of 20 and 30 somethings who get to meet together each week and study relevant topics to our faith and unique phase of life. College students home for breaks are welcome to come as well. We will begin on December 5.

Discovery Class: Room 330

Group of young adults and parents in their 20’s and 30’s who seek to grow in faith and support each other through prayer, studies, and events. Our lessons focus on scripture and how it’s woven throughout our everyday lives. Outside of class, we enjoy social and service events to give back to our community. Please join us!

Kindred Spirits - Room 251

A wonderfully age-diverse class for couples and singles from their early 30’s to 40’s, many members have children ranging from nursery age through elementary school. Our curriculum focuses on how The Bible and God’s plan apply to life situations and challenges. This very social class has many functions to foster and grow friendships, as well as frequent service opportunities for class members to give back. If you are looking for a class where you can grow, be challenged, and have fun, please join us!

Lightseekers - Room 252

This active class of married and single adults participates in group discussion Bible studies, led by a variety of class members. In the past they have enjoyed topics such as Revelation, The Will of God, and Important People in the Life of Jesus. They are involved in various service projects and enjoy regular socials. Most members have older elementary, middle, and high school age children.

40’s and 50’s

Phileo - Room 254

This friendly and energetic group is comprised of couples and singles in their 40’s and 50’s with teenagers, college-aged, and grown children. This self-taught class enjoys studying a wide variety of subjects. They are active in the Great American Family Picnic, MUST Ministries, Global Missions and the Christmas Angel project in December.

50’s and Better

John Strother - Room 261/262

This large class is comprised of couples and singles ages 55 and up. The class studies a Bible-based curriculum with a variety of teachers. We support the Christmas Santa Project, MUST, The Women’s Extension, the mentoring project for Marietta City Schools, and the UMM Golf Tournament. They also raise support for an orphanage in Guatemala and support missionaries in Kenya, Singapore, and Tanzania. This class enjoys several socials throughout the year.

Jack Aaron - Wesley Dining Room (Not Currently Meeting In Person)

This large class is comprised of singles and couples ages 65 and up. They follow the International Bible Studies, led by different class members each month. The class is active in-service projects for MUST Ministries, several children’s homes, and other local and global ministries.

J.O.Y. - Room 259

The class utilizes the Adult Bible Studies Series and other selected materials for its discussion-based studies. This small class of singles and couples, ages 65 and up, supports each other through regular communications  and social events. Outreach projects include missionary support in Peru,  soldier ministry, MUST ministries, Mountain Top Boys Home, Remote Area Medical and local church mission projects.  

Lindell DeJarnett - Room 253

This class is comprised of couples and singles in their 50’s and 60’s and up with adult children. This class studies topics concerning family and Christian life using various Bible based curriculum. Service projects include regular support for MUST, the Women’s Extension, Murphy Harpst Children’s Home and other local ministries. Members enjoy social outings several times a year as a class!

Open Door - Room 256

The mission of Open Door is to engage with Jesus, embrace his teachings and equip ourselves with the Word to encourage and empower ourselves and others. The Open Door Sunday school class has been an active part of the church life at Marietta FUMC for ever 50 years. They support over 25 missions, and have a variety of social events held throughout the year. The class studies Bible based curriculum with a variety of teachers and guest speakers. Visitors are always welcome and are invited invited to join!

Intergenerational

Sisters in Christ: Library

Sisters in Christ is for women of any age or marital status who desire to attend a Sunday School class just for women. Sisters’ curriculum is discussion based with everyone encouraged to participate. The contemporary studies tie stories from Old and New Testament scriptures to our choices for living today. Sisters also focus on fellowship and intercessory prayer.

Talk About It: Room 325

A drop-in, facilitated discussion about the personal impact of today’s 9:00 am service/sermon and how we can apply it to our work in the Kingdom, our families & community.  Our purpose is to help all of us carry the impact of today into making a difference tomorrow!
