Welcome Reception for new Associate Director of Music

Join us on Sunday, October 26, in the Parlor during the Sunday School hour (10:10 a.m.) for a welcome reception to meet our new Associate Director of Music, Andrew Van Varick. We look forward to hearing him play our Glatter-Götz Organ for his first Worship service with us on Sunday, November 2.

About Andrew

Andrew Van Varick, originally of Newton, New Jersey, is a doctoral candidate in organ performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, under the instruction of David Higgs. Previously, he received his Master’s degree at Eastman, and he holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Montclair State University, where he studied organ with Vincent Carr and John Miller, piano with Mark Pakman, and harpsichord with Dr. Hsuan-Wen Chen.

Andrew has played in coachings and masterclasses with Raul Prieto Ramirez, Balint Karosi, Michel Bouvard, Wilma Jensen, Simon Johnson, Ezequiel Menendez, Chelsea Chen, and Alan Morrison. As a recitalist, he has performed on the “Young Organ Artist” series at the Central Synagogue in Manhattan, New York City, on the “Wednesdays at Noon” series at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, New Jersey, and for the Greensburg, Pennsylvania and Little Rock, Arkansas chapters of the AGO. In 2022, he was a semifinalist in the American Guild of Organists’ National Young Artist Competition in Organ Performance, which was held at the AGO convention in Seattle. In September 2023, he competed as a semifinalist in the Ninth International Organ Competition Musashino-Tokyo in Japan. Most recently, Andrew served as the director of music and organist at the Central Presbyterian Church in Geneseo, New York.

About Matt:

Currently, our family is 6 - My wife, my son, baby number 2 on the way, my 2 dogs, and me! I gave my life to Jesus in 2011 and have been faithfully following Him ever since. I’ve been involved with many youth programs through various churches, and I’m excited to start this new journey with FUMC!
I love spending time with my family, going to the movies, and being nerdy. I’m looking to start work on a master's degree in the near future, and I’m very excited for our family to be growing!

Come decorate your pumpkin with us! We are hosting this fun event during the Weekday Church Family Supper on October 22nd from 5:30-6:30pm. We ask families to bring pumpkins for their kids and we'll provide all the supplies to decorate them AND we'll do the clean up! No registration for the pumpkin decorating is required, but we ask you to register for dinner so we know how much yummy food to make!

BANDS & BBQ Youth Fundraiser

Join us for Bands & BBQ, a special night benefiting Fusion Youth at Marietta FUMC!

We are raising funds for youth band equipment, production needs, and worship resources that support our Youth led band and Fusion Youth retreats like Discovery Weekend and Ignite Weekend. Every dollar raised will go straight to the youth program—and thanks to a matching donor, your gift will be doubled!

The Fusion Youth Band will perform throughout the evening, and our students will be serving pre-purchased BBQ plates from Dave Poe’s.

Plates must be pre-ordered by October 17 and picked up at the Lauder’s home during the event (6–8 PM).

Marietta FUMC Cookbook 2025: Order and Recipe Submission

Children’s Ministry is excited to announce our Fall 2025 Fundraiser: a custom cookbook filled with recipes from our entire church family and artwork by our children. These cookbooks will be professionally published and are sure to be a treasured keepsake for us all. This would be a wonderful Christmas gift to those within or outside our church community!

The cost of a cookbook is $30. The deadline to order and submit recipes is Wednesday, October 15. Cookbooks will be distributed by the second week of December. Order HERE.
